Our Mission

The Lucille Rader Education Foundation is dedicated to providing college tuition assistance to exceptional Catholic girls from Catholic schools in the Los Angeles Archdiocese who have participated in team athletics.

We are especially committed to supporting young Catholic women who aspire to advance the role of women in society, and whose career aspirations and moral character stand to position them as positive role models influencing the lives of other young women.

Over $1.2 million in college scholarships awarded to the Catholic young women of Los Angeles

For over 20 years, the Lucille Rader Education Foundation has supported talented young women from Catholic high schools across Los Angeles, helping them pursue higher education and reach their full potential. Each scholarship represents our belief in these young women and the incredible contributions they'll make to the world.

    Alvin Lamarre

    PRESIDENT & CEO

    Biology Teacher, Pine Lake Preparatory

    Alvin has served as President & CEO of the Rader Foundation for the past 18 years, continuing the legacy of his mentor, Dr. Lucille Rader. He helped her start the Foundation in 2002. Lamarre received his undergraduate degree at the University of Maine, his masters at UCLA, and completed a fellowship at Tufts University in innovative science education. Over 34 years, he taught at Immaculate Heart High, Crespi Carmelite High School, Central City Value High School, and currently is teaching at Pine Lake Preparatory in North Carolina.

    Gina Doyle

    VICE PRESIDENT

    Director of Development, The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Los Angeles

    Born and raised in the San Fernando Valley, Gina graduated from UCLA with a B.A. in Theatre, Film and Television. She spent 22 years in the restaurant industry, finishing as the General Manager of Lawry's the Prime Rib, Beverly Hills — the first and only female to hold a GM position in the Lawry's Restaurants 96-year history. After being introduced to The Society of St. Vincent de Paul and its mission, she left the restaurant business to join The Society as its Director of Development. Gina resides in the San Fernando Valley with her husband and daughters.

    Catherine Scheibe

    SECRETARY

    Assistant Principal, Counselor, Art Teacher (Retired); Crespi Carmelite High School, Value Schools

    Catherine has been an educator for 42 years. She began her career at Crespi Carmelite High School creating the fine arts program, while teaching art and world history. At Crespi, she eventually became the College Counselor. She was then appointed Assistant Principal. After working at Crespi for 27 years, she left Crespi to create a charter high school in Los Angeles called Central City Value High School. There she was the Assistant Principal and continued to teach art. She enjoys reading, swimming, and spending time in nature.

    Thomas J. Spratt

    TREASURER & CFO

    Senior Vice President (Retired), The Private Bank, Wells Fargo

    Tom was born and raised in New York. Tom's fifty year career, mostly in banking, has taken him to positions in Texas, Colorado and finally to California. He has been reading LREF essays for the past ten years. Tom and his wife Ann live in Woodland Hills where they raised their four sons. They enjoy travel and keeping tabs on their grandchildren. Tom has a broad taste in reading and enjoys keeping travel journals and putting out a year end news letter.

    Michelle Kane

    TECHNOLOGY COORDINATOR

    Academics Communications Manager, Art of Problem Solving

    A Southern California native, Michelle grew up in the Los Angeles area, where she attended Catholic high school. She holds M.Ed. and B.A. degrees, and has nearly a decade of experience teaching middle and high school English, theater, and religion. She is passionate about guiding students to develop strong communication and critical thinking skills, and works at a curriculum company that empowers students to solve challenging problems with confidence. Michelle enjoys art, writing, parish participation, and spending time with friends and family.

    Maureen J. Fondevilla-Perez, M.S., CCC-SLP

    Speech and Language Pathologist, Milestone Speech Therapy, Inc.

    Maureen began her career developing programs for underserved communities in the South Bay. After relocating to the San Fernando Valley in 2008, she provided home-based services through the regional center before opening her private practices in Glendale and the City of San Fernando. In addition to her clinical work, Maureen has served as a clinical educator at CSU, Northridge for ten years, mentoring aspiring speech-language pathologists. During her free time, Maureen enjoys traveling with her husband and two daughters.

    Mary Anne Hedrick

    Assistant Principal of Student Activities/Instructor of French (Retired), La Reina High School

    Born in Detroit, Michigan, Ms. Hedrick was raised in Southern California. After being educated at both Marymount High School and College, she studied for a teaching credential at Cal State Long Beach.  She has been teaching for 32 years in Ventura County and has two children, a son and a daughter.

    Sally Kirkeby

    Professor, Long Beach City College

    Sally is a community college professor, having taught English for 28 years. She has taught high school and now teaches at three CA community colleges. She has a BA in General Literature and an MA in Creative Writing, both from USC, and a second MA in English from Cal Poly Pomona. Prior to teaching, she was a journalist. She has two daughters: Lorelei, who attended Chapman Law School, and Semeli, who received the Lucille Rader Scholarship and attended UCLA with a premed major. She loves to travel, read, write, run, and spend time with her family and close friends.

    Ashley Lizana

    HR Generalist, Beyond Yoga (a Levi Strauss & Co. brand)

    Ashley is a SoCal native currently who graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a B.A. in Political Science, French, and a minor in Education Studies. She is currently an HR Generalist at Beyond Yoga, a brand under parent company Levi Strauss & Co. Prior to this she was a corporate and creative recruiter for Levi's and Dockers. Ashley enjoys learning skills and is completing her HR Certification at UCLA. She loves dancing, cooking, baking, and reading. She is a former Rader scholarship winner, as well!

    Patrick J. McDonough

    Retired Real Estate Executive, Sedona Real Estate Group, LLC

    Patrick is a retired real estate executive and was founder and Chairman of the Sedona Real Estate Group headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was responsible for the development, marketing and sales of commercial real estate in the Southwest. Prior to his real estate career, Patrick was the Chief Executive Officer of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in Dallas, Texas. He was responsible for the daily operations of the Foundation which included the foundation's international fund raising efforts and "The Race for the Cure.”

    Amanda Turk

    Head of Product & Operations, Apricot Technologies

    Born in West Hills, CA, Amanda attended high school in the Los Angeles area and was a recipient of the Lucille Rader Scholarship in 2008. She has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from MIT and worked as a mechanical design engineer before becoming a teacher in Catholic schools and, later, a digital product leader. She is now the co-founder of a HealthTech startup in Oklahoma City.
